The Bergen Museum of Art and Science presents, Diving into Digital, a unique digital print exhibition that underscores the partnership that exists between art, education and industry. The exhibited prints represent the work of nationally recognized artists working in the field of digital art.
A parallel exhibit, curated by Natalia Kolodzei, will feature the works of traditional printmakers. The exhibition will address questions as to the nature of digital printmaking and the use of the digital camera and computer as a tool as compared with traditional printmaking techniques.
“This exhibit will demonstrate the accessibility of current digital technology to virtually everyone. Inherent in this premise is the ability of the artist to create what was impossible, using technology that makes it possible”, stated Howard Berelson, who is coordinating the exhibit on behalf of the Museum.
The Museum has partnered with Fairleigh Dickinson University and the student interns of the Art and Communication Department to produce an interactive DVD of the digital exhibition. It is available for viewing during the exhibit in a screening room within the galleries. The voices of each individual artist explaining his or her work, process, inspiration and technical background are part of the DVD. It will be made available to students in art and communication departments in local schools, universities and institutions who request it, strengthening the relationship that exists between the arts and education.
Among the exhibiting artists are: Madeline Hope Arthurs, New York City; Howard Berelson, Teaneck, NJ; Gina Brezini, New York City; Karen Bright, Little Silver, NJ; Nanci Hersh, Red Bank, NJ; Mildred Kaye, Saddle Brook, NJ; David Leibowitz, Teaneck, NJ; Robin Locke Monda, Staten Island, NY; Lee Muslin, New York City; Kathy Rebek, Englewood, NJ; Gustavo Rojas, Teaneck, NJ; Rhoda Sidney, Englewood, NJ; Steven Swank, Leonia, NJ; Peter Tilgner, Tenafly, NJ; and Nancy E. Wyllie, Warwick, RI.
“The Bergen Museum’s mission is to participate actively in the community’s quality of life, bringing world-class exhibits and programs to the public, inspiring and enhancing lifelong learning. In keeping with our mission, we are very excited about this exhibit which incorporates the art community, industry with its newest technology, as well as local universities and schools. We are anticipating a great deal of interest from students and teachers of every age level,” said Peter Knipe, President of the Board of Directors of the Bergen Museum.
The Bergen Museum is located at the Bergen Mall, Lower Promenade, on Route 4 and Forest Avenue, Paramus. Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 AM to 5 PM.
