Bergen Museum Celebrates Hambletonian Festival

“The Story of Harness Racing By Currier & Ives”, From July 15th – August 31st
The Bergen Museum will host an important exhibit of Currier & Ives lithographs as part of the festivities surrounding the Hambletonian Race and Festival. A collection of rare, original Currier & Ives lithographs entitled “The Story of Harness Racing by Currier & Ives” will be open to the public in the Museum’s main gallery at the Bergen Mall, Lower Promenade, Route 4 and Forest Avenue, in Paramus from July 15 and runs to August 30; Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Museum will also participate in the Hambletonian Festival’s Parade and participate following the parade in the festival at Lincoln Park with Tango programs and Kids tent with face painting and other activities (at the end of the parade Route). Park Avenue Rutherford on July 31.

Currier & Ives exhibit is on loan from The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame, in Goshen, New York. The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame is home to the world’s largest collection of Currier & Ives trotting prints, and its educational and interactive exhibits are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of America’s first pastime.

The Bergen Museum is pleased to bring this exhibit of original lithographs from The Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame’s main collection to Paramus. The 32 lithographs illustrate, in an artful way, harness racing’s important role in American culture and history. These original lithographs depicting great trotting horses, bucolic mid-19th century scenes, and comedic adventures convey a picturesque view of Americana prior to the advent and development of photography.

The exhibit’s opening reception will be held August 4th from 4:30 – 7:30 PM.

Tickets: $20 per person.

The Bergen Museum is located at the Bergen Mall on the Promenade Level, Route 4 East & Forest Avenue, Paramus. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00AM to 5:00 PM.
